DON YAEGER

Don Yaeger has spent nearly 20 years in Florida’s Capitol working in and around the political process in a number of capacities, ranging from journalist to campaign strategist to governmental consultant. In addition to his role with One Eighty Consulting Don is also a writer/editor with Sports Illustrated magazine, New York Times Best-selling author, small business owner, well-known motivational speaker and media training specialist.

As President of our firm, for the last 10 years Don has served as consultant to a variety of clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies such as Dell, KPMG, Cisco Systems, Unisys, and EMC to smaller clients involved in environmental, health care, insurance, and financial services issues. He began his consulting career working for several Tallahassee-based companies involved in the highest levels of Florida government. Additionally, Don served as campaign consultant and media advisor to more than a dozen successful statewide and legislative political candidates.

Early in his career, Don was a reporter in San Antonio and Dallas for two of the largest newspapers in Texas, where he covered a variety of subjects from earthquakes in Mexico City to elections in El Salvador. From 1986 to 1990, he was a Political Editor for the Florida Times-Union, covering state and local politics for Jacksonville’s daily newspaper. His assignments there ranged from traveling with every major presidential candidate in 1988 to spending seven weeks inside Afghanistan with the mujahadeen as they battled the Soviets in the late 1980s.

In 1996, Don became an Associate Editor for Sports Illustrated magazine, where he reports and writes on many of the most important issues facing sports today, from steroids in baseball to security concerns at athletic events. He has twice been a finalist for the National Magazine Award, the highest recognition that can be bestowed upon writers at America’s leading magazines. During the last ten years, Don has also authored or co-authored 10 books, all on sports-related subjects, three of which were on the New York Times Best-seller list.

Don was recently appointed by Senate President Jim King to serve on the board of the Florida Education Fund. He also was appointed to the board of the Brogan Museum of Art and Science.

Don received his Bachelor of Science degree in May 1984 from Ball State University, where he majored in Journalism and History. He resides in Tallahassee with his wife, Jeanette, and son, Will.
